  • Each of the past 74 years holds special memories and the La Junta Tribune-Democrat has those memories (the public ones, at least) hidden away in the archives.
One of the hardest things to do is go through each year looking for anything in particular. But while looking in the archives, here are just a few high points this reporter came across:
    • Aug. 11, 1938 - Miss Fort Lyon took top prize as queen, the governor of Colorado led the parade and one little boy rode a broomstick.
    • New rodeo grounds were built in 1955.
    • Also on Aug. 20, 1946, Paramount Newsreel photographer E.K. Edwards and Associated Press cameraman E.O. Eisenhan filmed the parade from the top of the Harvey House.
    • This year is the 75th anniversary.
    • Constestants who participated in the first Kids Rodeo will be the special guests for the 75th anniversary. If you were a contestant during the first La Junta Kids Rodeo or if you know someone who was, you are encouraged to get in touch with the leaders of the Kids Rodeo.
    • Become a fan of the La Junta Kids Rodeo on Facebook and keep up with current happenings with the rodeo.
