4-H Fan Forever

I guess it’s time that I admit it. I am completely addicted to Facebook. I’m not sure when I became fully certain of my addiction. Probably when I caught myself mentally noting clever sayings or interesting moments to post as my status everyday, or when I started including “Do you have a Facebook?” right after, “Hi, I’m Jamie, nice to meet you.”
One of my favorite parts about Facebook is becoming a fan things. I’m a fan of chocolate, sleeping in, the smell of rain and Gerard Butler (of course!) Today while on Facebook, I became a fan of “We would never have been friends without 4-H.” As I started thinking more about my experience in 4-H, I realized just how huge of an impact it really has had in my life and the life of my family.
Five years ago, I joined Fort Bent 4-H Club. I naturally shied away from public speaking in any way shape or form, and my heart stopped when I was asked to introduce myself at my first club meeting. It wasn’t long, however, before I was taking on leadership positions and becoming involved in a vastly rewarding organization. I have to give credit to my participation in 4-H for strengthening nearly every skill I have and causing me to grow immensely as a showman and as a responsible, confidant individual.
My family and I found ourselves consumed in the family-friendly activities of 4-H right away. We grew closer through the process of raising and showing market beef. Months of early morning feeding chores and long, nervous pick up rides to shows formed a bond within my family that I am forever thankful for.
And it is true, I have met many of my very favorite people through 4-H. Together, our club has taken part in numerous community service projects, including serving at benefit dinners, cleaning up the fairgrounds and community, setting up for special events around Christmastime and many more.
I have achieved a level of confidence through my leadership positions and my experience with showing steers that has carried through to all other areas of my life. I have met my best friends through 4-H and have formed memories and gained skills that will help me to thrive in helping myself and others to find success for the rest of my life.
I am currently serving as the Vice President of Fort Bent 4-H club for my last year of membership in the organization.
Each club meeting reminds me of how much I have grown and experienced in my five years of participation and I will never forget the friends and memories I have made.
I take my Facebook pretty seriously, and 4-H is definitely something I am forever proud to be a huge fan of!
