A graveside memorial service for Irl Miller will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Elder Chapel in the Bent/Las Animas Cemetery in Las Animas, Colorado. Pastor Susie Burley will officiate. A private inurnment will follow at a later date.

Irl Austin Miller was born on May 28, 1936, to James C. and Grace B. (Scott) Miller in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and passed away on June 8, 2017, in Las Animas, Colorado, at the age of 81.

Irl moved to the Las Animas area at the age of nine and began farming in the Keller Community. He continued farming throughout most of his working years. In 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Hazel Ardelle Funk and to this union four children were born; Jerry, Amanda Irlene, Ricky and Kenneth. In 1987, Irl opened what eventually became the family business, Miller Auto Parts store, still operated by his sons to this day. After the passing of Irl and Hazel’s daughter Amanda Irlene and her husband Alan Losey, Irl took on the role of father once again and helped raise their three surviving children, Amanda Dawn, Al, and Austin, as his own. He enjoyed hunting, especially elk, and fishing. It’s been said time and time again, “He touched so many lives.” He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Irl is survived by his wife, Hazel (Funk) Miller of Las Animas, Colorado; children, Jerry (Susan) Miller, Rick Miller (Nancy Frieden), Kenneth Miller; grandchildren, Rae Ann Quintana, Amanda Holland, Al Losey, Grace Miller, Austin Losey, Cara Miller, Jason Miller, Trent Miller, J.R. Miller, Kelsey Miller, Danielle Miller, Matthew Miller; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of loved ones and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.W. and Marther Scott and Samuel and Delany Miller; parents, James and Grace (Scott) Miller; daughter, Amanda Irlene Losey; son-in-law, Alan Losey; daughter-in-law, Stacey Miller; brother, James F. Miller; and sister-in-law, Gloria Miller.
