Southeastern Colorado native Melvin Neugebauer hit a milestone on June 11 in Ruidoso, New Mexico, by winning the Grade 1, Million Dollar Ruidoso Quarter Horse Futurity. Neugebauer picked out Uptown Dynasty at the Heritage Place Sale in Oklahoma City last September.

"His look and breeding stood out to me," Neugebauer said. "He was slow to show speed but finally put it all together."

Uptown Dynasty won the first trial and first race of the meet, qualifying in the top 10 of 260 horses. He was a long shot in the Futurity paying $14.60 to win. The Ruidoso Quarter Horse Futurity is the first leg of the Triple Crown for Quarter Horses.

"Uptown Dynasty is doing well and came back good from the Futurity so we will enter into the Rainbow Futurity trials, then we're aiming toward the All American Futurity (the final leg of the triple crown)," Neugebauer said.

Neugebauer owns and operates Manzanola Feeds LLC, which produces Top of the Rockies Alfalfa Cubes.

"This win was especially nice because Uptown Dynasty was fed our Alfalfa Cubes produced right here in the Valley," Neugebauer said.
