A prisoner at Bent County Correctional Facility committed suicide on Nov. 1.
Geoffrey A. Scheid died by asphyxiation by suffocation, according to Bent County Coroner Dave Roberts.
He was pronounced dead at 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 1.
According to the Department of Corrections Public Information Officer Katherine Sanguinetti, Scheid was convicted of assault and sex assault in Adams County. He was serving a 16-year sentence and a three-year sentence.
He was incarcerated for second-degree assault and attempted sexual assault on a child in a position of trust.
The DOC inspector general is investigating the death.
