Green chili and salsa competitions at Colo. State Fair

Since the Colorado State Fair’s hometown of Pueblo, Colo., is so well-known for its delicious home-grown chilies, it only seems natural to feature a Green Chili and Salsa Competition at the 2010 Colorado State Fair.

Celebrate with us and bring your family recipe to the inaugural green chili and salsa championship contests held during the 2010 Colorado State Fair. Dice up your favorite mild to steaming hot green chili and salsa recipes, and compete for the chance to claim your first place ribbon and grand prizes from $50 - $100.

The green chili championship will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. in the kitchen of the Creative Arts building on the fairgrounds. Registration is now open with an entry deadline of Thursday, Sept. 2.

The salsa challenge will be held on Sunday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m., also in the kitchen of the Creative Arts building. Registration for the salsa challenge is open until Friday, Sept. 3.

These contests are open to anyone of any age, but amateur chefs only. Entry forms, competition rules and guidelines for each category are available at the Colorado State Fair website www.coloradostatefair.com.  They also can be picked up from the General Entry Office in the Agricultural Palace on the Fairgrounds, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by calling (719) 404-2080.
