Chico Basin Ranch education programs
Chico Basin Ranch education programs: Ranching the New West, the Prairie Ecosystem, the Lone Star Prairie School House and Chico Basin Bird Roundup are available to school groups throughout the year.
The ranch has renovated the Lone Star Schoolhouse, built in 1898 and uses it as a facility for school kids. Programs include taking students out into the prairie and wetlands to study nature, learning about ranching methods used to preserve and restore the land, into the saddle house and corrals to learn about ranching traditions, cowboys, horses and cattle, and tools of the trade, to the school house to learn about frontier life, and the bird banding station to learn about birds and their habitat needs. School groups can stay up to several days. Workshops for adults are also held for horsemanship, grazing and financial planning, ranch roping, art and cattle handling.

Corb Lund
Signed to the same record label as Kris Kristofferson, he has been a recent main-stage performer with the likes of Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, Trace Adkins, Tanya Tucker and various other artists at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival.
Lund, Canada’s acclaimed alternative country star who sells out arenas back home, is quickly growing in popularity in the U.S., appearing with everyone from other alt-country stars like Robert Earl Keen and Hayes Carll to mainstream country acts like Tim McGraw.
Growing up in a ranching and rodeo family Corb’s songs tell tales of the West and accurately hit the subtle nuances that ring true with those who know the trials, tribulations and good times that come from working with the land and living a lifestyle revolving around horses and cattle.
“My family is all ranchers and rodeo people,” Lund said. “They’ve been in Canada for about 100 years, and before that they were raising cattle in Utah and Nevada. Some of my relatives are still down there. I grew up rodeoing. I was a steer rider – that’s like the junior version of bull riding. I was on horseback pretty much as soon as I could walk.”
