LILY MAE SCHNEIDER
February 23, 1924 — October 30, 2008
Lily Mae Schneider died at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical in La Junta on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008.
She was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Wiley to Hazel M. and Guy V. Pitts. She attended Bent County schools, graduating from Bent County High School in 1941. She attended Blair Business College in Colorado Springs. There she met and married Ray Schneider on May 8, 1943. They celebrated 64 years of marriage. They spent several years in Las Animas where Ray farmed and Lily Mae worked for the ASCS in Bent and Prowers counties from 1955 to 1981 when she retired. They moved to Lamar in 1969. She was a resident of Prairie View Village in Las Animas at the time of her death.
She loved to dance, enjoyed camping, making RV trips to Laughlin and Searchlight, Nev., cross-stiching and playing cards.
She is survived by one daughter, Bobbie (Galen Sears) Rains of La Junta; sons, Jim Schneider of Conifer, Rick (Sue) Schneider of Grand Junction; four grandchildren, Bill (Kathy) Rains of Gill, Tessa (Kyle Yaste) Rains of Evans, Abby Schneider of Durango, Cara (Ed Dean) Schneider of Bothel, Wash; five grandchildren, Madelyn Mae Dean, Sidney and R.C. Jackson, Dalton Yaste, and Kiahlei Yaste; sister-in-law, Vivian Pitts of Las Animas and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray and brothers, Alvin Pitts and Max Pitts.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5 at the First Baptist Church in Las Animas with Pastor Jerry Moritz officiating. Kent Reyher sang, “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Peace In The Valley,” and “In the Garden,” accompanied by Nellie Childers.
Interment will follow in the Fort Lyon National Cemetery with Horber Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
