James Louis “Jim” Sumpter
James Louis “Jim” Sumpter, 60, of Branson, Colorado, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta, Colo. Funeral service is Monday, November 17, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kim High School Gymnasium in Kim, Colo. A private family interment will be at the family ranch.
Jim was born September 23, 1948 to Howard B. and Thelma C. (Corbin) Sumpter in La Junta, Colo. He married Billee J. Mizer on July 17, 1971 in Trinidad, Colo.
Jim graduated from Kim High School class of 1966. He received an Associates degree from Trinidad State Junior College and graduated with a Bachelors degree in mechanics from University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo. He was in the Colorado National Guard for six years. Jim moved his family to the ranch west of Kim in 1976. He loved ranching, show steers, Kim Mustang Basketball, and playing with his grandkids. Jim worked for BNSF Railroad for over 30 years, and enjoyed riding the trains with a great bunch of guys before retiring in September of 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Billee of the Branson home; daughter, Cheri (Jason) Kraft of Ft. Colo.llins, Colo.; sons, Justin (Kodi) Sumpter of Branson, Colo.; Jeremy (Dusk) Sumpter of Ft. Collins, Colo.; mother, Thelma Sumpter of Trinidad, Colo.; sister, Lois (Jack) Jolly of Trinidad, Colo.; brothers, Howard Sumpter of Kim, Colo.; Rich (Cindy) Sumpter of Fowler, Colo.; brother-in-law, Vin (Bev) Mizer of Fowler, Colo.; mother and father-in-law, Bill and Arlene Mizer of Kim, Colo.; grandchildren, Kyli, Tyler, and Mataya Kraft; Jacee, Caleb, and Destry Sumpter; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard B. Sumpter; brother, Billy Sumpter.
