James R. Chapman

CANON CITY – James R. Chapman Sr., age 88, of Cripple Creek passed away Jan. 8, 2010 in Colorado Springs.
Mr. Chapman was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Anaconda to the late Charles and Ann (Deters) Chapman.
He has been a lifetime resident of Cripple Creek. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Marlene Lorenz on June 1, 1959, in Raton, N.M.
Mr. Chapman has been a rancher for many years and with the assistance of the U.S. Soil Conservation Service, he made many improvements on his ranch. He loved woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family.
Mr. Chapman is survived by his wife, Marlene; four children, Linda Jo (Leonard) Fletcher of Penrose, Penny (Marlan) Bradley of Rush, Mark (Maureen) Chapman of Canon City and James Chapman of Cripple Creek; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Chapman; two sons, Ricky and Jimmy; and three brothers.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Holt Chapel of the Garden in Canon City.
Arrangements are being handled by Holt Family Funeral Home.
