Karen Sue (Hawkins) Williams, lifetime Arkansas Valley resident, died Jan. 15, 2009, at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood.
She was born Jan. 22, 1949, in La Junta to Thomas and Margaret (Callis) Hawkins.
She graduated from La Junta High School as well as the Pueblo School of Cosmetology.
She married Don Yergert and together they had two sons, Heath and Cody.
She owned and operated the Hair Affair Beauty Salon in Rocky Ford for 35 years. She enjoyed her work, making special visits to nursing homes and the homes of those who were unable to come into the shop. She was a devoted member of CommUNITY Presbyterian Church.
On Feb. 11, 1985, she married Mike Williams in Raton, N.M., and they had a daughter, Jenna Rae Williams.
Her passion was her work as a hair stylist and she was a talented artist. She also enjoyed spending time working in her yard and caring for her animals. She was an accomplished horseman and loved to watch rodeos. Being an avid sports fan, her home was never quiet on a Denver Broncos game day. Her pride and joy was her only grandson, Rhys Yergert.
She is survived by her husband Mike and daughter Jenna of the family home; sons Donald Heath (Kathy) Yergert of Warsaw, Mo., and Cody Thomas (Meghan) Yergert and grandson Rhys Gabriel Yergert of Boston, Mass., brothers Jerry (Wynona) of Washington, Don (Sandie) of Pueblo and Bill (Mary) Hawkins of California, as well as sisters Desi (Gene) Spears of Arizona, Faye (Hiram) Matthews of California, Judy (Richard) Crane of Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Maggie Hawkins.
Cremation has taken place as per her wishes and memorial services for Sue will be set at a later date for family and friends.
