Murder Suspect Attempts Suicide

    On Tuesday, Jan. 13, at approximately 10:03 p.m. Bent County Sheriff’s Office Jail inmate Mark Gonzales age 26 attempted to commit suicide by using a towel and a T-Shirt that he tied to his metal bunk.

    Gonzales was in a segregation unit cell by himself at the time of the attempt. Officers performed CPR on Mark Gonzales while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. Mark Gonzales is in critical condition and was transported to the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment and then taken to Memorial Medical Center in Colorado Springs. 

    Colorado Bureau of Investigation was called to conduct an investigation of the incident by Bent County Sheriff Gerry Oyen, Mark Gonzales is awaiting trial for the homicide of Chasity Stine.
