Lisa Campos of Las Animas has a disginguished career as a college sports administrator.
Lisa Campos, daughter of Joe and Rose Campos of La Animas, has been appointed athletic director at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Colorado State University in Fort Collins in 1999 and her Master of Science in Student Affairs/Higher Education in 2001.
At Fort Collins, she supported the next generation of first-generation students at Colorado State University by establishing a scholarship, The Joe and Rose Campos Scholarship Endowment, in honor of her parents. “I wanted to honor my parents because they have always been huge proponents of education and paying it forward. I wouldn’t have been able to get through college without my scholarship. I want to pay it forward for other students, so that they can earn their degree.”
At the University of Texas in El Paso, she was Asst. Dean of Students, 2001-2003, and UTEP Senior Associate AD 2003-2012. She earned her Doctorate in Education at UTEP. In 2012, she was hired at Northern Arizona University as Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. While at Northern Arizona, she was selected as one of the 40 under 40 young leaders. Alex Silverman wrote in the university publication:
“Over the past five years, Campos has transformed NAU into one of the Big Sky’s premier programs. After she filled head coaching vacancies for men’s and women’s basketball with high-priced talent from big-name institutions - Memphis and Arizone, respectively - NAU won the Big Sky Presidents’ Cup for overall competitive excellence in Campos’ first two full seasons at the helm.
“In 2014, Campos led the department through a rebrand, reinforcing to the local community, as well as the rest of the Big Sky, that NAU was for real.
“After bringing home the national championship in cross country last year, the school’s first at the D-1 level, Campos has the program poised for unprecedented competitive success.”
She will start at the University of Texas - San Antonio, as athletic director in January 2018. She is married to Darren D’Attilio and they have a son, Christopher, who is two and a half years old. The family is in the process of moving to San Antonio.
