All three conservation districts that are served from the Rocky Ford office have received matching grants for 2019. These grants have not been available for several years since they are funded by severance taxes. Each district received $25,000 that can be matched with landowner’s funds.
East Otero and West Otero Timpas Conservation Districts both have grants intended to address more efficient water use through updating irrigation practices. They are intended to help landowners who have applied for and been denied EQIP funds, but all irrigation projects are eligible. Neither district will give more than $5000 to any one land owner. If these funds interest you come to the NRCS Field Office to discuss your project and to fill out a short application.
Olney Boone Conservation District’s grant is intended to keep existing CRP in a grazing situation. If you need a well, tank, pump, pipeline, and/or fencing to make your land suitable for grazing contact the NRCS Field Office to discuss your project.
We’d like all interested landowners to have their application in our office by February 15, 2019. All projects will have to meet NRCS standards and specifications and they will have to be completed by September 1, 2019. For more information call 719-254-7672 and ask for Caitlin or Carolyn.
